Process
Thank you for your interest in a State Farm Agency Career. Below is a rundown of our process which is designed to equip you with the skills and support you'll need to manage a successful business.
The process, from coming in the door as a prospect to being selected for an opening, can take from six to nine months. For a portion of that time, you will be paid a salary that is determined by your last professional position. The salary determination is subject to proper documentation and State Farm salary administration procedures.
Sales and Leadership Profile
You'll complete an industry screening tool to help evaluate if an agency career is right for you. Your recruiter will discuss with you the assessment and how to best be prepared for it.
Geographic Preferences
You'll complete a Geographic Preference form to let us know in which areas you would like to be an agent.
Credit/Background Check
Includes motor vehicle, credit and work history. Having good credit is a necessity for this business opportunity. Access to a minimum of $50,000-$100,000 in capital is required as well. Your recruiter will discuss with you in detail the entrepreneurial aspects of this opportunity.
Resumé Interviews
We will conduct a 45-minute resumé interview with you. In these interviews, we'll discuss your professional experience, skills, goals and familiarity with your chosen market area. The interview will be conducted by an Agency Career Track specialist, who will be introduced to you by your recruiter. They will assist you further in going through our process and answering your questions and concerns.
Career Understanding
A program designed to help you learn more about being a State Farm agent and to help State Farm learn more about you. These are typically attended by executives from your region as well as agents who are prepared to answer questions and tell their State Farm story.
Candidate Structured Interviews
Competency-based interviews to learn about your strengths and skills.
Executive Approval Committee
The Executive Approval Committee determines if the candidates have the desired characteristics of a State Farm Agent, and allows them to become part of the Approved Candidate Pool for current or future Agency Career Opportunities.
Agency Career Opportunity Posting
Approved State Farm candidates will be the first notified of all agency opportunities in California and throughout the country. At this point you are able to compete for any opening in California or throughout the company!
Site Interview
California executives will conduct a site interview. The site interview team will select the top candidate who will advance to Intern Training.
Intern Training
This is the licensing, training and field development period which includes self-study, classroom training, agent field visits and more. At this point, you are paid a salary to assist you during this intense period of education. State Farm will invest more than $300,000 in preparing you to be ready on day one to grow and succeed in your business.
Agent Appointment — State Farm Term Independent Contractor Agreement
A 12-month contract.
